New Year Starting

Well, its that time of the year again. I always get excited when high school bowling season begins. We've got some new bowlers this year and it will be interesting how they improve and progress. One thing that I'm most interested in seeing is that if any of the last year JV members step up and give any of the Varsity players some competition for their spot.

This year, tryouts consist of a 4 day singles tournament. We'll draw up the team with the results of the tournament. I think a few girls will kick it in gear after having an off day today.

Here's the results for day 1.

I learned something today...

Tonight we traveled to Pekin IL to bowl against our friends at Illini Bluffs. And, it was tonight that I think we had a team breakthrough. We didn't bowl extremely well, but had a steady match going.

During the 3rd game, we started off with the first 4 frames, 20 individual frames, with no opens. I think for the first time in the two years that I've been helping with this team, I've seen each and every girl, trying to not only to not be the first to open, but rooting each other on with the passion that only the best team chemistry teams have. For those 20 frames, we were the team that we need to be. For those 20 frames, we were unbeatable.

Once the first girl opened with a split, the excitement and comradery continued, which I was very pleased to see. After a few more opens a few frames later the euphoria slowly slipped away, but, not so much that it wasn't still there at the end of the game. I think something happened tonight that will change THS girls bowling both this year and next. Time will tell, but I have a feeling...
